Here's a simple recipe for making homemade pizza:

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Your favorite pizza sauce
  • Toppings of your choice (e.g., mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:

    • In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture along with olive oil.
    • Stir the mixture until it forms a rough dough.
    • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.

  3. First Rise:

    • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
    • Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

  4. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to the highest temperature it can go (usually around 475-500°F/245-260°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.

  5. Shape the Dough:

    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
    • Divide the dough into desired portions (usually makes 2 large pizzas or 4 smaller ones).
    • Roll out each portion into a round shape on a lightly floured surface. You can use a rolling pin or your hands to shape the dough. Make sure it's thin but not too thin to tear.
  6. Assemble the Pizza:

    • Place the rolled-out dough on a pizza peel or a lightly greased baking sheet.
    • Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
    • Add your desired toppings, such as cheese, pepperoni, vegetables, etc.

  7. Bake the Pizza:

    • Carefully transfer the assembled pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven.
    • Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  8. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Once the pizza is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
